Bay Area’s Exclusive 626Sampler: 6 Vendors, 1 Price

626 Night Market is proud to present the Bay Area 626Sampler, a collaboration between 626 Night Market and six of our Bay Area vendors to bring you a diverse tasting menu of flavors from across the world. For $29.99, attendees received sample-sized items from the following vendors.

The effort was coordinated by Special Projects Staff, Bernadette Velasco.

Cafe 949

Seafood galore! Cafe 949 offers a taste of the sea through their signature grilled Maine lobsters and oyster dishes, all paired with their house-made garlic butter sauce. The best side dish to those ocean-centric main dishes is their savory Garlic Noodles: bouncy, buttery pasta with flakes of parmesan cheese and loads of salty, chopped garlic - making for a delicious, earth-focused alternative to their usual offerings.

KACE Tea

Merging the drinks of Taiwan and the Philippines, KACE Tea modernizes nostalgic Asian flavors by experimenting with the memory of tastes. Their “Juicebox,” a beautifully-designed canned drink, plays with an homage to boxed apple juices, a common treat in many of our childhoods. By mixing authentic Taiwanese jasmine tea with sweet apple juice and a hint of honey, KACE Tea captures the playground feel of our childhoods with the  sophistication we’ve developed in our adulthood.

DOC BONES BBQ

Fusing the cuisines of Texas and Southeast Asia into their original West Coast BBQ, Doc Bones BBQ connects the deep history of barbecue techniques with Southeast Asian flavors into modern fusion applications.

Their BBQ’d Lumpia is an incredible example: a mix of smoky, umami barbecued meat and mixed vegetables fill a crunchy, deep-fried wrap. The barbecue sauce is a homemade concoction combining passionfruit, orange, and guava into a deliciously balanced sweet and savory condiment. Attendees could choose between two protein options: Competition Pulled Pork or 1st Place BBQ’d Chicken; both use the passion-orange-guava BBQ sauce and are paired with a tangy, classic Filipino garlic-vinegar dip.

Pȃte Ȧ Choux

If you love cream puffs, you’ve come to the right place. Pȃte Ȧ Choux, bakes an assortment of French pastries, with a specialty in Craquelin Cream Puffs. Using only the freshest, locally sourced ingredients, the bakery fills every puff by hand with a thick, vanilla cream custard that is the perfect amount of sweet. The crunch of the buttery craqueline dough – cookie-like in texture – complements the smooth custard for a heavenly bite. It’s topped with half a Biscoff cookie to munch on.

HolyChileMole

The owners of HolyChileMole honor their Romani roots by sharing their family recipes with the 626 Night Market community. These recipes are rich with history, developed over a thousand years of passed-down legacies. Good food takes this type of time, and it shows in their Brisket Birria Taco, which features a slow-cooked brisket birria. The tender meat is folded into a toasted corn tortilla with melted jack cheese and their own earthy-sweet chile mole sauce. The crunchy exterior breaks perfectly into the saucy filling, and proves that these flavors were worth the wait.

Ice Monster

Looking for a new kind of treat? Ice Monster offers a variety of sweet flavors across Asia in the form of experimentative drinks and desserts, but they do feature one traditional Chinese snack: their Fried Chinese Sausage. The sausage is dipped in a mix of sweet potato powder and delicious spices before it is steamed and fried in vegetable oil and beef tallow. The result is a crispy, juicy snack that tastes reminiscent of braised meat. Attendees can top their sampler with garlic salt, chili oil, and/or a sweet and sour sauce to customize the dish to their palate.

If this sampler line-up has you craving more, be on the look-out for our next 626Sampler in Orange County, May 31st to June 2nd! There will be an all new line-up of 4 vendors exclusive to the first Orange County weekend, just for $19.99!
