Coloring outside the lines: Art Wall 2.0 makes its mark in Southern California
From random doodles, to shameless plugs, to artistic drawings, 626 Night Market let creativity run free with a new Art Wall. This experience first started at the Bay Area location, and has now made its mark in both Arcadia and Orange County.
The art wall experience was conceptualized by Riland Simpao, and assisted by Jaron Ramos and Sahrang Han.
Starting out as a black and white canvas, the free activity was filled with fun and cute designs that encouraged guests to fill in the many different drawings throughout the wall. These included iconic California landmarks, delicious Asian snacks and desserts, and QB himself, waiting to be colored in.
As guests passed by the wall, staff encouraged them to draw what their hearts desired in a rainbow of marker colors. Toddlers, couples on date night, performers, and even food vendors flocked to the wall to make their own mark on the canvas.
After both Arcadia and Orange County weekends, the art wall was completely covered in unique drawings and tags. Guests drew themselves with fun phrases like “We have to cook sisig!”, as well as drawing pop-culture references; characters from the video game “Among Us” made frequent appearances. One guest even drew Waldo, the character from the popular childhood puzzle game “Where’s Waldo?” hoping the art wall would turn into a fun game for everyone passing by.
The art wall soon became a symbol for connecting the community together, as people from all walks of life were able to contribute a colorful idea to one canvas. Four siblings who live away from each other reunited at the 626 Night Market’s Arcadia location, and wrote their names together to commemorate a tender memory together.
